A weekly organic social media schedule for real estate agents

An organic social media schedule is a repeating weekly rhythm: a set post type for each day, so you always know what goes out next. It takes the daily "what should I post?" decision away. This guide gives you a sample week, a batching routine and a template layout. For the year-round view of seasons and local events, see our 12-month social media calendar.

Why a weekly rhythm works

Most agent pages run in bursts. A great week around a big listing is followed by two weeks of nothing. A rhythm smooths that out because some posts don't depend on news: a Monday wrap, a Wednesday tip, a Friday team photo.

It also helps your audience. When people know your Monday post is the weekend wrap, some will look for it. Consistency is easier to keep than creativity, so build the routine first.

A sample week

This is a starting point for a single agent or small office, built around Facebook and Instagram. Swap the days to suit your own open home schedule.

  • Monday: weekend wrap. Open home attendance, any sold results, thank you to those who came through. Use only numbers you actually have.
  • Tuesday: a useful tip or answer. One question from a client, answered briefly. See creating content from client questions.
  • Wednesday: listing spotlight. A new or current listing, with inspection times. A Reel or carousel works well here.
  • Thursday: local. A suburb highlight, a local business or a community event.
  • Friday: people. A team member, a behind-the-scenes moment or a client thank you.
  • Saturday: open home live. Stories from the day, with reminders for anyone still deciding to attend.
  • Sunday: rest or reshare. Reshare the best post of the week or a sold result, or skip it.

That's seven slots. Most agents can't keep up all seven. If you can only manage three, choose Monday, Wednesday and Friday, then add days gradually.

Solo agent or office?

A solo agent should keep the rhythm small: three posts, plus stories on open home days. An office can share the load. Give each day an owner, for instance one person for the Monday wrap, one for the team post and one for listings, and have a single person approve everything so the voice stays consistent.

Which platform gets what

  • Facebook: feed posts and sold or listing news. Many local owners and buyers still check Facebook for community news.
  • Instagram: feed, Reels and Stories. Reels suit walkthroughs and tips, while Stories suit open home updates.
  • LinkedIn: a smaller rhythm aimed at professionals and referrers. See our LinkedIn posts guide.

You don't need to write something different for each platform every time. You do need to check that each one looks right. Text that works on Facebook can be too long for an image on Instagram.

Batch your week in 90 minutes

  1. Pick a regular slot. Friday afternoon or Monday morning, whichever suits.
  2. Plan (15 minutes). Check your listings, inspections, sold results and anything from your calendar.
  3. Collect assets (20 minutes). Photos, short clips and team shots taken over the week.
  4. Design (30 minutes). Drop them into your template, duplicating pages for extra posts.
  5. Write captions (15 minutes). Keep them short. Open with the point.
  6. Schedule (10 minutes). Use Meta Business Suite to schedule Facebook and Instagram posts. If your Canva plan includes scheduling, you can do it from Canva instead.

Leave Saturday's stories and any breaking news unscheduled, because those need to be live.

Caption starters you can reuse

  • Monday: "Here is how the weekend went across our open homes."
  • Tuesday: "A vendor asked me this week: [question]. Here is the short answer."
  • Wednesday: "New to market in [suburb]. Here is why it will suit [type of buyer]."
  • Thursday: "One thing we love about [suburb] is [local detail]. What would you add?"
  • Friday: "Meet [name]. Ask them about [topic they know well]."

Starters like these remove the blank-page problem. Replace the placeholders with something specific every time, and you've done most of the writing.

Set up a template

A planning template saves time because the structure is already there. Build a simple one in Canva, with one page per week and a frame for each post. Add your logo and the month, drop in images and copy, and share the link with your team for approval. Our guide to using Canva in real estate covers how to set up brand colours and reusable layouts.

Include these fields for each post:

  • Day and platform
  • Post type
  • Image or video
  • Caption
  • Link, if there is one
  • Approved by

Review it every Friday

Spend 15 minutes in Meta Business Suite or the Insights in each app. Ask three questions:

  1. Which posts got the most comments, saves or shares?
  2. Which led to a message, a call or an enquiry?
  3. Which got little response, and should the format or topic change?

Test your posting times too. Rather than trusting a generic "best time to post", look at when your own audience is active. Keep the rhythm for a month before changing it, so you have something to compare.

If a week goes wrong, don't try to catch up. Skip it, post your best-performing format on the next scheduled day and carry on.

Frequently asked questions

How often should real estate agents post on social media?

Start with three posts a week and add more when you can keep them up. A steady rhythm you can sustain is better than a burst followed by silence.

What should I post on each day?

A common rhythm is a weekend wrap on Monday, a tip on Tuesday, a listing on Wednesday, a local post on Thursday and a people post on Friday. Adjust to suit your open home days.

What is the best time to post?

It depends on your audience. Check the activity data in Meta Business Suite and test a few time slots for a month before deciding.

Can I schedule posts in advance?

Yes. Meta Business Suite can schedule Facebook and Instagram posts, and some Canva plans offer scheduling too. Leave live updates, such as open home stories, unscheduled.

Key takeaways

  • A schedule is a weekly rhythm: the same post types on the same days, so you never start from scratch.
  • Start with three posts a week and add more only when you can keep them up.
  • Batch your week in one 90-minute session and schedule it.
  • Spend 15 minutes each Friday checking what drew comments, saves and enquiries.
