Apple Business Connect for real estate agents: setup guide

Apple Business Connect is Apple's free tool for claiming and managing your business's place card in Apple Maps and other Apple apps. If someone with an iPhone searches for your office in Maps, the place card is what they see. Claiming it takes about half an hour and makes sure the details are yours, not a guess.

One note on naming. Apple has been combining Business Connect with its other business tools under the name Apple Business, and reports say existing claimed locations carried across. The steps below apply to the claiming process either way, but screens and labels may differ from what you see, so follow what Apple's site shows you.

What a place card is

A place card is the information panel that appears when someone searches for a business or taps its pin in Apple Maps. It can show your name, address, phone number, hours, website, photos and logo. Apple says the same information appears across several of its apps, including Maps, Messages, Wallet and Siri.

If you don't claim it, Apple fills the gaps from other data sources. That can leave you with an old address, missing hours or no photos.

Why it matters for an agency

Apple Maps is the built-in maps app on iPhone, so a share of your local audience will find directions to your office there rather than in Google Maps. Buyers and vendors searching for your office, new staff finding the address and clients looking for opening hours are all small moments where wrong information costs you.

It also supports consistency. Search engines and directories compare your details across the web. Matching information everywhere is a small trust signal for your whole local presence. Our guide to Google Business Profile rankings covers the Google side of the same job.

How to set it up

  1. Go to Apple's business site. Search for Apple Business Connect or Apple Business and use the official apple.com page.
  2. Sign in with an Apple Account. We suggest using a dedicated account for the business rather than a personal one, so access doesn't leave with an individual if staff change.
  3. Add your business and search for your location. If a card already exists, claim it. If not, add it.
  4. Verify. Apple checks that you represent the business before you can edit. It may ask for evidence, such as a recent bill or letter showing the business address, and the review can take some days. Allow time before you need it live.
  5. Complete the card. Add details once approved, then review how it looks in Apple Maps on an iPhone.

If something goes wrong

  • A card already exists for your office. Claim it rather than creating a duplicate, because duplicates confuse customers and make updates harder.
  • The pin is in the wrong spot. Check the location on the map as part of setup, and use the support options in your account if you can't correct it.
  • Verification stalls. Check that the name and address on your evidence match what you entered, then follow up through the support options in your account.

Decide who owns the login, and write the details down somewhere safe. In an office with several agents, one person, such as an office manager or principal, should hold the business account, so the listing is never stuck behind someone who has left.

What to put on your place card

  • Business name: exactly as it appears on your signage and website.
  • Address and phone: the same format as your Google Business Profile.
  • Opening hours: include your real office hours and update them for public holidays.
  • Website: link to your home page or a contact page, whichever helps visitors more.
  • Logo and photos: a clear logo, plus a few good photos of your office exterior and team. Visitors use these to confirm they've found the right place.
  • Category: choose the closest real estate category Apple offers.

Write once, then copy. Keep a short document with your approved business name, address, phone, hours and description, and use it for every directory.

A note on Showcases

Apple has described Showcases as a place card feature for current offers or updates. At launch they were available in the US, with Apple saying they'd reach other countries later. We couldn't confirm whether or how they are available to Australian businesses, so check inside your account before planning around them. Don't rely on any feature until you can see it in your own dashboard.

Keep it accurate

A claimed place card is only helpful if it stays current. Put these on your regular checklist:

  • Update hours before long weekends and over Christmas.
  • Change the address and phone number everywhere on the same day if you move or change numbers.
  • Check how your card looks in Maps every few months. Search for your agency name on an iPhone, as a customer would.
  • Remove any former staff or old photos.

Your website should say the same thing as your place card. If you're reviewing it anyway, the real estate website guide covers what else a good agency site should show, and 4 ways to improve your SEO ranking explains how local details fit into wider search work.
